Question:
I am stuck!
I have so many things going to try to get my business going, that I am getting nothing done. I have blogs I try to work on (and have trouble getting pictures etc. into them to make them more appealing), pamphlets to mail out (and can’t seem to get the format right), want to redo my Wix website to update its look but can’t figure out how to get my logo into it and how to change the look. I paid for a new logo but am uncertain how to insert it into my website, into letterhead, etc. I have paid for a Google Ad that seems to be helping with inquiries and searches, but feel that my SEO is inadequate. Instagram and Twitter just seem beyond my reach. I also am confused about how to create a mailing list from website inquiries, and now that my business has begun to pick up, am finding that my manual calendar bookings are sometimes getting confused.
I don’t know exactly how to get myself sorted out here and don’t have a huge budget to hire someone. It is hard to concentrate on that when other things to work on come up!
Expert Jane Harrell Responds:
You’re not alone! So, first, take a big, deep breath and says this:
- I don’t have to be everywhere
- I don’t have to do everything
- I don’t have to be everything to everyone
- Everything works better when I’m not
Whenever you’re feeling that overwhelm, come in and say that out loud to yourself. I’m a staunch believer that we all have our different areas of genius and trying to be “experts” in too much is one of the easiest ways to drive ourselves insane. When you’re starting out, this can be especially hard because you don’t necessarily have a sense for how long it might take someone else to do versus you, and you’re trying to do everything “right.”
So first thing’s first: Let go of that perfection monster and try adding only ONE image to each blog post. Start there, if images are a blocker. Yes, it can be better, but most things can and getting the blog posts up will help long term with SEO, etc.
Next, try this for your logo. If that doesn’t work, go on Fiver and put a job posting to have someone change your Wix logo for $25. You should be able to get takers for that, since it should take someone who knows the platform very little time to do–less than 15 minutes.
Next, forget Instagram and Twitter. Neither are likely to be good business generators for you, so breathe a sigh of relief and, instead, request our Social Media Selector Tool and Worksheet to determine which ONE social channel to consider.
